iCarMode switches to subscription

We have just released a new version of iCarMode. With it comes a switch to a subscription model.

As an existing user, you are eligible for a discount since we do appreciate your previous investment.

If you are a new user and you yet not ready to commit for a full year subscription, you can subscribe for a month, test the app and see if you like it before you commit further, you can cancel the subscription anytime anyway.

As of today, we’re changing iCarMode payment model. You can enjoy full access for all previous and new features with our discounted yearly subscription or monthly if you're not ready to commit yet.

Legacy Users - upgrade to subscription

If you bought iCarMode in the past (before version 7.0), you are not forced to subscribe, you can enjoy the same iCarMode experience you bought - as always.

But....you won't get access to new major features like integrated turn-by-turn navigation, custom background, podcasts player (unless you purchased it as in-app purchase) and also future major features that are on the way.

Subscribing will ensure you'll get access to all future features and it will also ensure iCarMode will keep developing.

What changed?

Like many of the developers on the AppStore, I came to the conclusion that one time payment model is not good anymore. Since the first publish of iCarMode in 2011 the app was redesigned from scratch - twice and had seven major versions full of new features.

That's without mentioning all versions in between...

Depending on when you purchased iCarMode, most of you enjoyed all or part of these upgrades, free of charge over the years and until recently that was ok, really - with love.

But since:

  • The market of iCarMode is shrinking over the years (built in media systems in new cars and more and more competitors) - there are less new users than before.
  • 3rd party features like the new turn-by-turn navigation have fluent expenses.
  • Also, developing and marketing an app has many continuous expenses.

All of these expenses can not be covered by a one time model anymore.

Many apps monetize using ads - which is not an option for iCarMode who aims to keep you focus on road.

Others just sell their data (their users...) - which is also not an option - I respect your privacy.

So the only conclusion I could get to ensure the existing and future development of iCarMode was to ask your support by subscribing...

After all, it's less than the value of a cup of coffee per month...
